WALL STREETERS BRING ON MORE LOBBYING HELP: Ameriprise Financial has hired 1607 Strategies to lobby on issues related to brokered deposits, or funds directed to a bank by a third party. The banking and fintech industries have been fighting an effort by the FDIC to reverse Trump-era changes to loosen regulation of such deposits, which would make it easier for Wall Street firms to partner with fintechs. Their effort bore fruit today when the FDIC agreed to extend the comment period on their proposed rule, our Michael Stratford reported.

— Travis Johnson, a former David Vitter (R-La.) aide and Senate Banking subcommittee staff director, will work on the account along with former Ted Cruz (R-Texas) aide Hailey Miller, disclosures show.

Humanity Forward, the nonprofit founded by former Democratic presidential candidate (and potential New York mayoral candidate) Andrew Yang, has hired its first lobbying firms to push for direct cash relief for Americans in a coronavirus relief bill. And Westfield, the shopping mall concern that’s part of the French conglomerate Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, has hired Deandra Bass Wilbon of Bass Public Affairs to lobby on taxes, according to a disclosure filing. Westfield also retains Ferox Strategies and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Travis Johnson has left GrayRobinson to start his own lobbying shop, called 1607 Strategies in a nod to his Virginia roots. He’ll lobby on financial services and taxes, among other issues. He’s bringing a number of clients with him, including the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, Assurant, Cross River Bank, Capital One, and the Structured Finance Association.
